My love for boxing

If you would have told me a few years ago that I now exercise 4-6 times a week and that I am about to start to compete in boxing I would have never believed you, probably would have laughed in your face!

Before I moved back to Sweden I was living in Holland and I was in the worst shape ever not taking care of myself and my body at all. Exercising never even came to mind that was just not for me I thought even though I had always been a bit fascinated by kickboxing and thought that in a different life I would have kick-boxed. Sports was never a big part of my life growing up either, I tried a few different sports and the only one that stuck was dancing, and I did do that for a few years but not on a high level. Moving back to Sweden was a bit of a chock in the sense that here people are quite healthy and from what I was hearing it seemed that pretty much everyone had a gym-membership. At first I thought it was a bit ridiculous but then I started thinking why not, maybe I would feel better.

I was quite smart in how I started my journey to get in shape, I started going to the least intense classes, it was me and the retirees in there. Started slowly with that class and not putting too much pressure on myself with routines that I could not keep up. That is the problem for most people they start off too intense and can never keep it up. After a while I tried new classes and increased the intensity and I discovered a class that I really wanted to go to, Boxercise. Before I tried that class I wanted to be in decent shape so I would not embarrass myself, so I worked towards that goal. When I then tried it I was hooked. After going to that class for a while I thought why not try the real thing, real boxing in a boxing club.

I will not bore you with the details but finally I found my way to Bk Rapid in Västerås, this is a club where everyone is made to feel welcome and the coaches try their best to give everyone attention. Boxing has been a big part of my life now for 2 years and I love it. This year I will start competing and that makes me motivated to give it my all. I found the sport for me that gives me so much joy and motivates me to stay healthy and fit. It is definitely not a sport for everyone and women are very underrepresented but if you love being challenged both mentally and physically you should try it out. One of the reasons why I love boxing and exercising is that it does not matter how I look or act, it is up to me physically how I do and it is that performance that others might care about. Weights training is also very important and I am starting to enjoy it but it has not always been like that I saw it more like a necessity to become a better boxer.

Exercising and finding the sport that I love has been great. I nowadays feel much healthier and confident in my body in the way it looks and what it can do❤. Exercising has to be fun you have to enjoy it or you will never keep it up, so everyone needs to find their sport and not think that going to the gym is all you can do, there is so much more to discover out there. If it is something you enjoy you will prioritize it over other things and it will become a part of your everyday life. I would go nuts if I could not exercise in some form, lets say more nuts than I already am ☺
